  3. (Third time writing this because I'm foolish and hit backspace a lot by accident. At least I get to edit it more.)

The first time I heard Desmodus Rotundus I instantly thought bug (maybe even one that is known for climbing into your body.) Sadly, I researched and found out that a Desmodus rotundus was a bat, not bug. Here are some fascinating facts about the Desmodus Rotundus I found out that I am dying to tell you: 6% of bats that were captured by humans, contraptions and even cats had rabies, even though in the little amount of rabies in the United States most cases are caused by bat bites... Another interesting fact about Desmodus Rotundus is that their saliva has found some positive use in medicine. In a medicine that includes Desmodus Rotundus' saliva, the effects shown to increase blood flow.

Vampire bats have such good eyesight that they may be able to see an animal from a distance of 430 feet.
A liquid in vampire bat saliva keeps blood from clotting.

  6. The desmodus rotundus is a common vampire bat. It is small, and the only parasitic mammal. Like vampires, they suck blood out of their prey. The bats mainly eat on mammals. They hunt at night using echolocation to find and strike at their prey. Heat sensors in the nose of the bat let it detect blood vessels when near the skin. They can be found in Mexico, Central America, South America, Uruguay, northern Argentina, Central Chile, and Trinidad. They sleep during the day in mines, caves, trees, or even abandoned buildings.

  7. Some fascinating facts about Desmodus rotundus (common vampire bat) are that they are one of the three living species or the kind of vampire bats, the other two are the white-winged vampire bats and the hairy-legged vampire bat. The Desmodus rotundus are the only mammal that is parasitic and when they approach their prey at night when the prey is asleep, the common vampire bat feeds on the blood of livestock.

  8. Desmodus rotundus also refered to as the "common vampire bat" live in colonies of 20 to 100 indiviuals however colonies up to 5,000 have been reported. They are limited to warm climates so they can be found in both humid and arid parts of the tropics and subtropics. Also, you can find them in old wells, mine shafts, and abandoned buildings.Common vampire bats feed on blood of other vertebrates. In the wild they feed on livestock, wild animals, and humans however in captivity they feed on snakes, lizards, toads, crocodiles, and turtles. A bite from one of them can lead to infections and diseases carried by the bat.If the infections spread quickly they can cause death.

  10. The common vampire bat that we see in America has is small and has a leaf shaped nose. There are three extinct vampire bats in America and this is one of the three. The other two are the hairy-legged and the white-winged vampire bats. These species are the only parasitic mammals. Parasitic mammals live off of other host mammals.

  11. The common vampire bat lives from northern South America to Southern South America. Since these bat's diet is blood, their classification of diet is called hematophagy. The vampire bat only hunts when it's completely dark outside. This makes the vampire bat hunt for prey that is asleep. The bat feels for a warmer spot of blood and makes a small incision. The incision will start to bleed and they lick the blood from the small wound. The bat will fly off with a stomach full of 1 fluid ounce of blood.

  12. This little bat is a small bat in comparison to other bats. It is a parasitic mammal, the only mammal species that is, in fact. It is a leaf-nosed bat. It is black and has short sharp teeth. The wing span is around 350mm. It is about 9omm tall, head to toe. They live in Mexico, Argentina, and Uruguay. They feed on blood from cows, pigs, and other farm animals. They are mammals, so as babies they get milk from their moms. They are hunted by hawks and eagles or large birds. They are an endangered species. Bites can quickly cause infection and spread diseases to other animals and people. Most have rabies, and when they do they are clumsy and unable to fly.
